At RetailTribe we believe that the only retailer positioned to have a real and personal relationship with the consumer is the expert, Independent Retailer.
We believe that the Independent is in a position to dominate the conversation with the consumer and is perfectly placed to deliver the best value to a consumer because they can deliver real one-on-one service.
If that is the belief then how do we create success for our customers
Going back, to when the Independents dominated, 80 years ago, if you went into a Pharmacist or Chemist the back wall would be dominated with bottles and drawers. Each labeled in Latin and each full of an individual compound or liquid or powder. The Chemist would mix your potion including potentially lethal chemicals such as Strychnine. The bottles and labels and process together were a metaphor that clearly highlighted the Chemist’s ability and expertise.
If you went into a Golf Professional's shop just 50 years ago you would find a man qualified to make your golf clubs for you personally. He was a craftsman and clearly of great value to his customers.
Today these metaphors do not exist. They have been replaced by the mass media market mediums of national print, radio and television that have been used to create a conversation around cheapest price, special offers, unlimited selection, the latest feature and product function.
This conversation is NOT about how the retailer can assist the individual consumer with their specific needs and requirements. These conversations do NOT start with "how can I help you?".
The Internet is another media that offers the large format retailers the ability to communicate with unknown customers en masse. But the Internet also offers the opportunity for the smallest retailer to stay in contact with their own customers. People who they actually know and who know them. And the fact that there is a relationship where a name or face is known, means that the consumer is 10 times more likely to respond to a digital communication as long as it is NOT spam. This is the start of a fantastic opportunity for the Independent Retailer.
Delivering a Service
This opportunity requires time and effort to exploit it, but the Independent is often extremely time challenged. So RetailTribe has a solution that will require less than 20 minutes effort per week from the retailer.
